In order to positively response the strategic positioning of creating internationally known and high level research oriented university proposed in SUSTC’s development strategy and discipline construction planning, department of physics convened the development strategy seminar for the whole department recently. The seminar was held by director of department of physics, He Jiaqing, president Chen Shiyi, vice director of preparatory office, Han Wei, dean of general affairs, Lu Chun, department director of Research Department, Zhao Yusheng, as well as leaders from relevant departments and all faculty members from Department of physics attended the seminar.

Professor He Jiaqing gave a keynote speech. The speech systematically introduced the current teaching and scientific research conditions and all kinds of stock resources of department of physics, deeply analyzed the situation in many respects, such as scientific research, teaching, management, level of teachers, talent introduction and so on; he indicated the achievements obtained by department of physics now and also pointed out the current disadvantages of department of physics and opportunities and challenges faced by it through comparing with world-leading physical level.

The keynote speech generated a heated discussion of all attended personnel; all of them actively offered their advice and suggestions to the medium and long term development and planning of department of physics. School leadership attended affirmed the achievements obtained by department of physics in various aspects such as scientific research, teaching, public services and so on and gave their instructions to the problems encountered in the process of development. President Chen Shiyi operated from a strategically advantageous position in his speech and gave his advice to the development orientation and direction of department of physics in the future; he especially emphasized that it shall regard the world-leading department of physics as its model, pay attention to the teaching work and talent cultivation; he also encouraged the department of physics to actively introduce top-level talents.

The development strategy seminar enhanced the cohesion of all faculty members of department of physics and pinpointed the positioning and striving direction for every faculty member centered on the master plan of development of department of physics. The seminar emphasized the significant role of teaching and scientific research in the overall development of department of physics and laid a good foundation for achieving development strategy and construction planning of the subject of Physics.
