Recently, SUSTech hosted the Fifth International Symposium on Offshore Structures and Pipelines (ISOSP). Several renowned experts and scientists, including Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) Fellow Teng Jinguang, gathered on campus to discuss the issues surrounding oil and gas exploitation, and ocean engineering. Torgeir Moan, the Professor of Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and Fellow of Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab (DKNVS) opened the meeting with an enthralling address.

SUSTech’s Department of Ocean Science and Engineering hosted the symposium, while Offshore Pipelines and Risers (OPR) Co. Ltd. were proud supporters. Nearly 60 representatives from prestigious organizations, enterprises, and universities across the country attended the symposium, including Nanshan Science and Technology Bureau, Zhejiang University, NTNU, Sun Yat-Sen University, Tsinghua University, CNPC Engineering Technology R&D Company Limited and so on.

There were intense discussions at the symposium surrounding ocean science engineering as well as oil and gas exploitation. The attendees discussed the detailed measures and future trends on a variety of fields such as floating bridges and wind turbines, sea sand concrete, fiber-reinforced polymer, nonmetallic underground pipes, automatic ultrasonic testing of pipelines, offshore and marine engineering and dynamic positioning (DP) systems. In the Q&A session, the representatives spoke actively and asked some valuable questions. The lively debate interested all participants and kept everybody engaged throughout the symposium.

The symposium has established a platform of advanced technology communication for universities, institutions, and enterprises in related field. Through this symposium, the universities and enterprises can deepen their academic communication as well as promoting technology innovation. It also does help to speed up the transformation of scientific and technological achievements in universities.
