On March 8, 2018, Yang Hong, a member of the Standing Committee of the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee, led a delegation to SUSTech. University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong and President Chen Shiyi accompanied the delegation, who were at SUSTech to research the progress of the university.

Yang Hong was very excited about the construction of SUSTech. After visiting the school planning sand table and listening to the overall planning and construction of the school, Yang Hong and his team headed to the site of the second-phase construction site in the light rain, where the delegation learned more about the second-phase construction on campus.

At the meeting, University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong and President Chen Shiyi provided detailed information about SUSTech. They also reported on the future development plans at SUSTech.

Hong fully affirmed the achievements made by SUSTech thus far. He said that this is the second time that he has come to SUSTech and that the achievements made in just a few years are encouraging. The development of SUSTech truly reflects Shenzhen speed and Shenzhen quality. Shenzhen City will continue to fully support the development of SUSTech and support the university to become a world-class research university.

At the same time, Yang Hong hoped that SUSTech would play an important and fulfilling role as an innovation driver. He believed that innovation would help deepen exploration and practice in the integration of production, education, and research, and contribute to the service of urban innovation-driven development.
