On March 31st, 2018, the Shenzhen Research Institute for Third-Generation Semiconductors was officially launched with the support of the Shenzhen Municipal Government. The Institute was co-hosted by China Advanced Semiconductor Industry Innovation Alliance and SUSTech.

The former China’s Vice Minister of Science and Technology, the director of China Advanced Semiconductor Industry Innovation Alliance Committee, and the director-general of Shenzhen Research Institute for Third-Generation Semiconductor Cao Jianlin, the Member of Guangdong Provincial Party Committee and the Secretary of Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee Wang Weizhong, the Mayor of Shenzhen Chen Rugui, the Executive Deputy Director of China Advanced Semiconductor Industry Innovation Alliance Consultative Committee Zhao Yuhai, the Deputy Director of Department of High-tech Development and Industrialization Cao Guoying, and Director Wang Ruijun from Guangdong Province’s Department of Science and Technology, SUSTech’s President Chen Shiyi and other experts and attended the ceremony.

At the meeting, CASA Director-General Wu Ling introduced the basic situation of the research institute. Later, Cao Jianlin, Wang Weizhong, Chen Rugui, Cao Guoying, and Chen Shiyi announced that Shenzhen Research Institute for Third-Generation Semiconductor was launched.

Aiming to establish a world-leading technology for the country, depending on the resources of CASA, the research institute shall meet China’s strategic demand for third generation semiconductor in 2030. The aim is to establish an open, international, and comprehensive innovation system for the third-generation semiconductor materials. Achieving such an innovation system shall be done through resource integration and complementary advantages. Through these methods, the entire industry chain of China’s third-generation semiconductor materials can be promoted to become the global leader.

On the same day, Shenzhen Pengcheng Laboratory Launching Ceremony was held at Shenzhen, which was hosted by Shenzhen Cyberspace Laboratory. SUSTech’s President Chen Shiyi attended the ceremony as the council member.
