The acting CEO of CICASME (China International Cooperation Association of Small and Medium Enterprises) Liu Yupu led a delegation to SUSTech. During his appointment as the Secretary of Shenzhen Municipal CPC, Liu has made great contributions to the founding and development of SUSTech since its establishment six years ago.

Liu Yupu and his staff received a warm welcome from SUSTech representatives, including University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong, Associate Vice President Lu Chun and Director of Communications and Public Relations Zhang Ling.

Guo Yurong hosted a 90-minute seminar themed “Build a World-Class Research-Oriented University, Rooted in China.” After introducing some facts, statistical aims, and unique characteristics of SUSTech, she also made a multi-perspective analysis of the university’s achievements so far with Lu Chun. Among SUSTech’s achievements, the highlights included receiving a Top 50 Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai Ranking), and employing the first Academician from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Vice President Tang Tao. Other highlights she mentioned were being awarded the best academic paper quality by China Education Online and the fastest university to award Ph.D.s from its original establishment.

Guo Yurong also pointed out that SUSTech is in the process of building the School of Medicine and becoming a “Double First-Class” university. Liu Yupu acknowledged the significant achievements and influential impacts that SUSTech thus made so far, hoping the university will continue to be innovative, creative and practical like the city of Shenzhen.

Next, the two parties went into the Pico Center in the Materials Characterization and Preparation Laboratory and met with the student and teacher representatives of Shude College. Liu Yupu was enthusiastic about students and teachers’ residential college experience and thought highly of their healthy lifestyle and charity involvements.
