On May 22, SUSTEF’s (SUSTech Education Foundation) eighth meeting of the Second Council was held in Overseas Chinese Town, Nanshan District, Shenzhen. Chief Financial Officer Ye Qin hosted the event, whose attendees included University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong, President Chen Shiyi, Vice President Wu Chuanyue, UNESCO-ICHEI Director Li Ming, Acting Dean of Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies Liu Ke, and Shenzhen Hongben Asset Management Co., Ltd. Luo Jian.
During the meeting, President Chen summarized a series of achievements SUSTech has made recently, such as the receiving approval to award doctoral degrees, building the medical school, progress in research, enhancement in faculty quality, and breakthroughs in striving for the title of “Double First-Class” university. He spoke highly of the rapid development of SUSTEF and appreciated the devotions of all council members, hoping they would coordinate further and create a better SUSTEF. After the President’s speech, Secretary-General Chen Siqi was elected as a council member of SUSTEF’s second council.
Next, SUSTEF passed the revised regulations and policies for foundation projects and approved the funding plan so low-income students can be offered medical insurance. There was further elaboration regarding some organizational and structural changes of the foundation, along with the announcement of several recent major donations and a summary of the establishment ceremony of the SUSTech Club. SUSTEF then voted on and passed the SUSTech Club Rules. Besides, SUSTEF Secretariat made a report based on the Audit Report of the 2017 SUSTEF Accounting Statement, summarized their work in the past two quarters, and presented the annual plan for 2018.
SUSTEF President and University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong delivered the closing speech by reaffirming the vital role of SUSTEF in SUSTech’s reform and innovation practices, urging responsible persons to refine the organizational structures and regulations, calling on all council members to improve their professional skills. She hoped SUSTEF would build more platforms for communication, open up different fields for resource exchanges, and become a more influential organization on campus and in the city.
