Recently, the 2018 RoboMaster South China Regionals took place at the Foshan Lingnan Mingzhu Gymnasium in Guangdong Province. SUSTech Student Club “Artinx Robot Team” successfully made five types of robot chariot within a limited time, finished runner-up in the Technical Challenge, and received the third prize in the main competition.
Organized by DJI, Shenzhen Municipal Government, the All-China Students’ Federation and the Communist Youth League, this year’s RoboMaster South China Regionals attracted 32 university teams.
RoboMaster is a robotics competition to test university students’ ability in engineering, strategy design, and teamwork. The main event requires teams to develop and operate six robots that shoot projectiles at opponents, deducting Hit Points. RoboMaster also includes an individual event called Technical Challenge, in which teams develop AI-enabled robots to complete assigned tasks independently. The RoboMaster season includes regionals both within China and overseas, as well as a Wild Card Round, and the Final Tournament. Top regional teams advance to the Final, while the Wild Card gives university teams a second chance to earn one of the final four remaining spots in the Final. In August 2018, Shenzhen, the global headquarters to both DJI and RoboMaster, will host the Final Tournament, where 32 teams will battle for the championship.
Founded in 2015, the “Artinx Robot Team” is a SUSTech student club centered around innovations in science and technology. As a member of the Maker Workshop at the Student Affairs Office since 2015, the team has competed at the RoboMasters South China Regionals every year since their inception, winning a second prize and two third prizes. In 2016, it received a special research fund of 140,000 RMB (over 20,000 USD) from the Shenzhen Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Commission.
