On June 13, the computer-based testing section of the 2018 SUSTech independent recruitment examination took place in 233 examination rooms and 31 testing centers across the country. Nearly thirteen thousand students took the computer-based testing on Wednesday, before heading for the interview section on June 14. Due to local educational reform, another 1,100 prospective students from Shanghai and Zhejiang only needed to go through interviews, which took place on the same day as the computer-based testing in other provinces. Just 1,020 will be admitted into SUSTech for the next academic year, based on their performance in both the computer-based testing and interviews. Thirty-two thousand prospective students applied for the independent recruitment examination, a 15% increase from last year’s figure.

As the testing center for Guangdong Province, the SUSTech campus welcomed over two thousand students, who descended upon campus to take the computer-based tests in Teaching Buildings #1 and #2 as well as the Teaching Building in Lychee Hills. Examination personnel made sure nothing went wrong and arranged shuttle buses for students and parents to go to the relatively remote Lychee Hills. University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong and University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang scrutinized the examinations rooms at Teaching Building #1 in person and examined the testing centers across the country through CCTV.

The computer-based test began at 9:20 a.m. and lasted for 2 hours and 10 minutes. The examination sought to discover students’ creativity, imagination, mindfulness, logic, critical thinking, English proficiency, and STEM knowledge. At the same time, SUSTech held recruitment talks at testing centers across 20 provinces and introduced SUSTech to the parents of potential students.
