On June 26, Xu Weiqing, Vice Director of Ministry of Education’s State Council Academic Degrees Committee Office, led a delegation to SUSTech to discuss degree management affairs. Delegation members included Xing Feng and Ouyang Qian, who are the Head and Research Office Director of Guangdong’s Education Department.
SUSTech President Chen Shiyi warmly welcomed the delegation, took them on a campus tour, and invited them to a meeting on recent degree approvals at SUSTech. Other SUSTech members participating in the visit were Dean of Quantum Science and Engineering Institute Yu Dapeng, Department Head of Earth and Space Sciences Chen Xiaofei, Dean of Engineering College Xu Zhenghe, Dean of Sciences College Yang Xuemin, and Executive Vice Dean of Graduate School Wang Quan.
The delegation visited the Pico Center at Materials Characterization and Preparation Building, as well as the Cryo-Electron Microscope Innovation and Research Center. After talking to research personnel on laboratory management, Xu Weiqing fully acknowledged SUSTech’s developments in research and laboratory work.
At the meeting, Xu congratulated on SUSTech’s recent achievements on academic degrees: four doctoral and seven master’s degrees were approved by Ministry of Education’s Office of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee in the past four months, meaning SUSTech was able to award these 11 degrees to future graduates. He further emphasized that such achievement was especially difficult for a young university like SUSTech. Chen Shiyi appreciated Xu Weiqing’s recognition and the two parties engaged in discussions on degree approval, degree management, academic discipline management, theawarding of degrees, and latest developments on SUSTech’s newly approved degrees.
