On July 5, Duncan Whitwell, Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopedic Center of Oxford University’s Medical Sciences Division, visited SUSTech and its affiliated hospital. Distinguished guests included French orthopedic surgeon Pascal Louis and Neil White, Secretary-General of the Sino-British Surgeon Foundation Association. SUSTech’s University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang and Vice President Lu Chun accompanied the guests and invited them to a meeting.

At the meeting, Vice Director Zhang Jian of SUSTech Medical School Construction Office introduced the recent developments at SUSTech and its medical school. Mr. Whitwell praised SUSTech’s accomplishments so far and introduced the public medical care, medical research and international collaboration programs of both Oxford University’s Medical Sciences Division and the Nuffield Orthopedic Center. The three guests also talked about clinical medical education, exchange visits of high-level doctors, and the proposed international orthopedics center at the SUSTech Hospital.

Later, Whitwell, Louis and White visited various departments and offices at the SUSTech Hospital, and presented academic lectures titled “Developments in Joint Replacement Operations” and “Upper Arthroscope Operations.” They were highly impressed by the hospital’s environment, equipment, and the professional ethics of our medical staff. They all hoped the proposed collaboration plan would materialize soon, accelerating the progress of medical care in Shenzhen. They also anticipated that progress from the future collaboration plans would bring leading clinical research teams and public health resources to the city.
