The recent week-long China International Choral Festival took place in Beijing. The SUSTech Choir made its long-awaited debut at the festival and received a silver medal (also known as Level B Choir) in the adult mix chorus group.

The China International Choral Festival is China’s only international choral event and recently celebrated its 27th anniversary. 263 performances by 308 choirs from 59 countries and regions across 15 competition categories took place during the week-long event. The festival saw over 15,000 singers and art scholars/representatives perform.

The Education Conference of International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM) also took place during the Festival. Experts from across the globe discussed the relationship between chorus and school/community, ways to improve China’s choral education, and different approaches to promoting choral educational exchanges.

The SUSTech Choir’s success in the competition can be attributed to not only their own efforts but also the organizational efforts of SUSTech Center of Arts. Apart from striving for the best, the choir also disproves a common misconception that STEM students cannot excel in arts.
