On August 2, SUSTech’s Technological Innovation Summer Camp for High School Students held its closing ceremony. President Chen Shiyi opened the ceremony, emphasizing SUSTech’s global vision, long-term mission, innovative characteristics and rapid development in recent years. He sincerely hoped to see the campers being admitted to SUSTech next year.

Vice Head of Chemistry Tan Bin shared the news of Chinese contestants winning four gold medals at the 50th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) in the Czech Republic and Slovakia over summer. He explained SUSTech’s crucial role in helping contestants to prepare for the competition and encouraged campers to come to SUSTech to achieve similar success at the next IChO.

Vice Head of Physics Ye Fei was glad to see the camper’s strong interest in scientific research. He looked forward to seeing them at SUSTech next year.

Camp representatives He Ke (from the High School Attached to Hunan Normal University) and Luo Xiao (from Wuxi Big Bridge Academy) shared their thoughts and memories of the Technological Innovation Summer Camp.

The camp lasted from July 17 to August 2 with three sessions in total. Each session lasts for five days, organized by different departments/schools with specific academic themes. Campers engaged in laboratory work and research seminars. They also took part in lectures on both STEM and humanities subjects, as well as sharing sessions with professors, SUSTechers, and residential college advisors. They also had the opportunity to climb to the peak of Lianhua Hill, which overlooks the central business district. The students paid tribute to the statue of Deng Xiaoping, the mastermind behind China’s economic reform.
