Colleges are the important part of South University of Science and Technology of China, for South University of Science and Technology of China implements the college system management, which is an educational reform integrating education, management and service functions, and an innovative measure to incorporate credit system, tutorial system and traditional college system. With the development of our school running, SUSTC decided to set up two new colleges to meet the study and living demands of more students, serving the students’ development. Shude College is just one important part of talent training strategy of SUSTC. 

Shude College was prepared to build since early 2015. The school leaders attached great importance to college establishment, for which the school allocated the well-constructed management team and tutorial team and convene meetings many times to discuss the college development strategies. On July 22, 2015, SUSTC held a symposium on the college development strategy, to which all the college management team and counselors participated. Professor Zheng Chunmiao, director of the College, proposed that the College should be built into a spiritual home of students, and help the college students to become a promising youth with profound humanistic quality and lofty ideas.

On August 26, 2015 when the “Work Conference of Welcoming New Students of Class 2015” was held. Academician Chen Shiyi, also president of SUSTC, and other leaders and teachers named the College as “Shude College”, which symbolized its official establishment.
