The first day of Mid-Autumn Festival saw Green Pine Stadium explode in a carnival of color and light. With a student-led festival on the theme of “Meeting SUSTech – Welcome New Life and Celebrate National Day”. University Council Vice-Chairperson Li Fengliang attended the event along with faculty members, residential college heads, freshmen, parents and student from other higher education institutions across Shenzhen.
Li Fengliang opened the party. He said that the Orientation Party plays an essential role for student organizations and reflects the spirit of self-reliance, independence and innovation of SUSTech students. He also sent Mid-Autumn Festival blessings to the students and sent a message to the new students to enjoy their lives at SUSTech.
The 2018 Welcome Party Gala was divided into three parts: “Hello, SUSTech”, “Building SUSTech”, and “Creating the Chinese Dream”. Various associations inside and outside the school have expressed their welcome to the SUSTech freshmen in the form of Western music, crosstalk music and dance. Shenzhen University (Xili Campus) ATP Dance Team performed “Who Got the Power”, which won the audience’s applause with graceful dance. The SUSTech Monsoon Theatre Club performed a short drama entitled “Sharing Mentor,” where they interpreted the university mentor system in the era of artificial intelligence. The international students from Cambodia sang traditional Cambodian love songs to bring an exotic atmosphere to the party. The original band of the campus “Wood Crocodile” performed, along with the hip hop street dance crew. The erhu ensemble performed “Horse Racing” and the martial arts club Ninety-Eighty-One gave a visual gift ahead of the National Day Holiday. Each act was met with enthusiastic applause from the assembled audience.
With the help of real-time interactive use of rocker-arm tracer lights and the technical support of professional live photography, the event saw synchronous on-site, online and offline interaction. The total number of live streams on the night passed nine thousand with the total number of online and offline viewers surpassing twelve thousand.
Faculty member Guo Chao said that he hoped that the new students can feel the vitality of student organizations through the party and would participate in more clubs and organizations in addition to their heavy classwork. Freshmen Luo Bingshen said that the evening was well organized, and the staff of the Student Union were impressed with their on-site coordination and wonderful programs. The parents who watched the performance said that they felt the vitality and enthusiasm of the SUSTech students and hoped that SUSTech continues to develop further.
