The first meeting of the third session of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Faculty Committee took place earlier this week. University President Chen Shiyi was joined by the professors of various departments and research institutions from across campus.

Director of the Office of Human Resources Chen Zhifeng first reported on the preparations for the third session of the Faculty Committee. Subsequently, after nomination by the University, all the members voted. The meeting elected Professor Liu Qingsong of the Department of Marine Science and Engineering, as the chairman and Professor Li Chuangchuang of the Department of Chemistry, as the vice chairman of the Faculty Committee.

Chen Shiyi spoke at the meeting. He affirmed the work of the last Faculty Committee chairman Wang Xuefeng and thanked them for their contributions. He suggested that the new committee of the Faculty Committee should firstly focus on strengthening the moral education and cultivate people . Secondly, they should form a positive, progressive attitude within the Faculty Committee and effectively play a leading role. Thirdly as members of the Faculty Committee, their research and teaching achievements should be taken to the next level. He hoped that the new Faculty Committee would continue to work hard to make greater contributions to the development of SUSTech.

Newly elected board chairman Liu Qingsong and vice chairman Li Chuangchuang addressed the meeting. They expressed their gratitude to the departments and their colleagues for placing their trust in them. They would wholeheartedly contribute to the Faculty Committee, and further strengthen the bridge between the faculty, the administration, and the Faculty Committees. They also sought to comprehensively promote the interdisciplinary relationship between professors. They also put forward constructive comments on all aspects of the school’s work, which contribute to the goal of promoting the construction of an international high-level research university.

 The meeting revised the “Statute of the Faculty Committee of the Southern University of Science and Technology,” and discussed the development of the Board.
