Shenzhen Municipal Housing Committee Director Speaks on Environmental Protection

Director Liu Chuhan from the Shenzhen Habitat Environment Committee was invited to speak at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) as part of the SUSTech Lecture Series. He spoke on about “Shenzhen Environmental Protection and Management Practices – Fighting Pollution Prevention and Control.”

Liu Chuhan is a Master of Environmental Law at Wuhan University and a Master of Business Administration at Guanghua School of Management, Peking University. Since 2015, he has been the Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Housing Committee. He has led the development of many environmental regulations and regulations and launched a series of influential innovations in the field of environmental management. He has unique insights and rich management experience in sustainable urban development.

In the lecture, Liu Chuhan introduced the current situation of the deterioration of the global environment and the ecological crisis facing China. He pointed out that in the past 40 years, Shenzhen’s economy, society, and environment have developed in a coordinated manner, and environmental quality is at the leading level in the country. However, China still faces enormous ecological and environmental pressures, such as the deterioration of the urban ecological environment and severe environmental governance.

He analyzed the status quo of the atmosphere, water and soil environment in Shenzhen, and examined Shenzhen’s governance measures, effects and challenges. Liu Chuhan spoke about solid waste treatment and linked it to Xi Jinping’s thoughts about an ecological civilization. He dissected the importance of Shenzhen’s environmental protection from not just a national perspective but also in terms of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In looking forward to Shenzhen’s environmental development blueprint, he stressed that Shenzhen should not only be at the forefront of the country in terms of environmental administration but also be at the national forefront in the research and application of environmental technology.

Following the lecture, many questions came from the lively audience about the environmental issues in Shenzhen. Liu Chuhan answered all the questions, leaving the audience satisfied and replete with more knowledge about the environmental situation in Shenzhen.
