Academician Xu Hongxing of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Associate Dean of the School of Physics and Technology of Wuhan University was invited to speak at SUSTech. He spoke on the topic of ” Plasma Exciton Photonics and Nano-Optics: Super Sensitive Sensing and Nano Optical Waveguide Research.”
Xu Hongxing graduated from Peking University in 1992 and received his Ph.D. from Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) in 2002. In 2010, he won the China Youth Science and Technology Award. In 2013, he won the Physics Prize of Rao Yutai of the Chinese Physical Society. In 2017, he was nominated as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
During his lecture, Xu Hongxing introduced the discovery of electromagnetic enhancement effect in nano-gap from the basic optical point of view, as well as the research of super-sensitive sensings such as single-molecule Raman spectroscopy and sub-pico longitudinal range resolution. He said that nano-optics and plasmon photonics are important new branches of optics and spectroscopy, which will bring many breakthroughs in biology, energy and other fields. Subsequently, Xu Hongxing combined his own research results to explain the physical and control mechanisms of plasmon propagation in nano-waveguides. He introduced his research in photonic routers, complete optical logic, half adders and optical logic cascades in nanowaveguide networks.
After the lecture, the faculty members and students asked many questions. Xu Hongxing answered every question carefully and professionally.
