Department of Physics Holds Strategic Seminar

Last week, the Department of Physics held its Annual Strategy Seminar. Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Academician and Dean of the College of Sciences Yang Xueming joined other CAS Academicians Tsinghua University Professor Zhu Bangfen, Director of the Institute of High Energy Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences Wang Yifang and Executive Dean of Peking University’s Academy of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies. Other members of the Strategic Steering Committee of the Department of Physics (Advisory Committee) were also in attendance.

The Advisory Committee and the faculty members from the Department of Physics discussed a variety of important issues. Topics talked over included the development of the Department’s talent team, putting the curriculum together, the undergraduate and postgraduate training systems, and the enrollment work of the Department.

In the afternoon, the Advisory Committee gave recommendations based on the work report. They also discussed the development of the Department, along with the opportunities and challenges it will face in the future. The Advisory Committee encouraged faculty members to pay attention to important international academic exchanges in this field. In addition, they advised that the Department actively compete on the international stage and acquire more independent research results.

On the final morning, He Jiaqing, Head of the Department of Physics worked systematically through the work highlights of the past year. He spoke of the current development for the Physics discipline, putting together a talented team, continued advances in scientific research achievements and future development strategies and goals. Professors Chen Lang and Ye Fei reported on the progress of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and training respectively. The Advisory Board fully affirmed the work of the Department of Physics over the past year.

Yang Xueming summarized the meeting. He said that the Department of Physics had made some achievements in the last year, but there is still a certain gap until it reaches the higher standards. It is necessary to strengthen the awareness of problems and continue to reform and explore. The Department should focus on scientific planning and solving problems in order to accelerate the development of first-class academic disciplines. They should make unremitting efforts on the road and make new contributions to the development of the University.
