“Five clouds in the window overlooking the waves, but also the Han people in the Tang Dynasty.”

The fragrance of ink, book, and eucalyptus permeates through the Lynn Library at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), where a small “Song study room” has been put together. On October 22^nd, the “Golden Autumn Exhibition” of ancient and rare Chinese books and literature from the Song dynasty opened on the third floor of the Lynn Library. The exhibition was jointly sponsored by SUSTech’s Lynn Library, the Museum of the Alliance Road Culture Development Co., Ltd., and the Yachang Art Center.

The exhibition has exhibited a total of 30 kinds of relics of ancient books, such as Song editions of Confucian classics, the Dugong collection, and 21 high-quality reproductions of inscriptions, paintings, and calligraphy. Examples include the “Tuobao Tower,” “Huangzhou Cold Food Post,” “Hands and Flowers.” The film includes works by famous calligraphy masters such as Wang Xizhi, Yan Zhenqing, Huai Su, and Yan Liang. This is the first time SUSTech has hosted such an exhibition.

“Many excellent scientists have rich liberal arts attainments. Although SUSTech students are all science and engineering students, I hope that through such activities, we can create a stronger humanistic atmosphere in the campus. I would like to enhance the humanistic and artistic culture of science and engineering students,” said SUSTech Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang, at the exhibition’s opening ceremony

The exhibition will last until November 2nd, during which period bibliographers Chen Xianxing and Professor Ye Tao, Associate Professor He Biqi and Professor Li Fengliang will be invited to hold two lectures on the Song edition and calligraphy.
