On October 29, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education held a province-wide video conference to discuss new developments in education, following General Secretary Xi Jinping’s trip to Guangdong last week. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was one venue for the video conference. Members of the SUSTech leadership team joined the heads of various committees and responsible people from different departments, research institutions, and centers in attending the meeting.

The discussion suggested that the Guangdong Province education system should thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches in Guangdong. There should be a continued clarification of how to make the ideas workable, in order to produce fruitful results in Guangdong.

First, we must earnestly enhance the consciousness of studying and implementing the spirit of his important speech. Second, there must be a strengthening of research and study in conjunction with local education institutions. Third, the fundamental tasks of the people of Guangdong must be considered, in order to cultivate all-around moral, intellectual and artistic people to build the motherland. Fourth, strengthen the moral education with the aim of providing the students with an all-round development. Fifth, we must actively serve the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with a view to strengthening overall leadership in education.
