Vice President Tang Tao’s Lecture on “Being a Future Talent with an International Perspective”

Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) Vice President Tang Tao, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences gave a lecture to students on the evening of October 30. His lecture, entitled “Being a Future Talent with an International Perspective” explained the related problems and plans of studying abroad for the students of SUSTech. He encouraged them to study hard and apply their scientific and technological knowledge to the country.

Vice President Tang profoundly analyzed and interpreted the question of “why should I study abroad.” He provided an alternative perspective by examining the rise of China and its insatiable demand for academic talents in its scientific development.

He believes that SUSTech students should be ambitious, face the future and indeed the world. Vice President Tang said that students should seize the opportunity and draw on the strengths of others in order to become scientists with global vision. Such scientists dare to challenge the status quo and working at the cutting edge of science and technology, becoming future leaders.

During the lecture, Tang Tao gave a detailed explanation on what kind of majors are suitable for studying abroad, what problems should be noted when applying for different levels of schools, how to choose schools, majors and tutors, and how to plan his own future. Tang Tao also analyzed the advantages of studying abroad in terms of teacher resources, academic activities, and multi-faceted support in schools. He encouraged students to go abroad, join international competitions, learn the most advanced knowledge and bring it back to build a China that will lead the world in the future.

In the question and answer session, Tang Tao dealt with all the questions and offered suggestions for the students’ cross-professional studies, joint training, and application preparation. His lecture enhanced the students’ understanding of going abroad for further study and science and technology. It inspired the students to strengthen their awareness of learning and self-improvement, which was well received by the students.
