On October 16,2015, Lin Guoqiang, academician from Chinese Academy of Sciences, famousorganic chemist, and research form Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry ofChinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to present in “Southern China FrontierSynthetic Chemistry High-end Forum” held by the Department of Chemistry of ouruniversity, and came to the 37th session of SUSTC Lecture Series, to discuss future of chemistry development with students and teachers of ouruniversity and give a report on Research of New Methods for Chiral Chemistry. The seminar is hosted by President Chen Shiyi. 

Academician Lin Guoqiang 

Academician Lin Guoqiang is a famous organic chemist in China, he was institute director of Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The research and interest range of Academician Lin Guoqiang is wide, including important native compound total synthesis, catalysis, biological catalysis and research and development of medicine molecule, he is an expert in China with outstanding contribution. 

In the report, Academician Lin Guoqiang pointed out that asymmetric synthesis isthe most effective method to obtain chiral compound, it is of great importancein the aspects of organic synthesis, chiral drug research and fine chemicalengineering, and it is very active research hotspot in chemistry field. AcademicianLin Guoqiang also gave examples to illustrate design and synthesis of new-typechiral olefin ligand, systematically explored high enantio selective reactionto a series of metallic and biological catalysis, researched efficientasymmetric synthesis of organic functional molecule, bioactive molecule and medicine molecule of several important structures, completed many important scientific research work and obtained best scientific research achievements. 

Academician LinGuoqiang indicates that the final aim of doing scientific research is to servenational economic construction, and the responsibility of scientific andtechnological field is to put scientific research achievements into production.Academician Lin Guoqiang hopes scientific and technical workers shall becreative and innovative. Technology is the essence of national improvement, andinnovation is the soul of nation improvement.
