Southern University of Science and technology (SUSTech) welcomed Vice President Sunhyuk Kim of Korea University (KU) and his delegation to campus this week. SUSTech Vice President Teng Jinguang met with the Korean deputation, which also included Myunghwa Jeon, Manager of International Affairs of Korea University. Other SUSTech officials included representatives from the Global Engagement Office and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
The KU delegation first visited SUSTech’s Taiyi Supercomputer center, the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center, and Public Analysis & Testing Center.
The two sides spoke at length about the development of internationalization programs, postgraduate training, undergraduate exchanges, and teacher development of the two universities. The discussions focused on joint training of talents based on industry, study, and research.
Background:
Korea University is South Korea’s largest private research-oriented comprehensive university. It was founded in 1905 and is the first higher education institution in South Korea established by private capital. Since its inception, KU has inherited, developed and created education in various disciplines. It has developed a sense of national identity and international recognition of a world-class research center. KU is ranked 5thamong Korean universities in the Times Higher Education University Rankings and 1st in the QS Asia University Rankings among private comprehensive universities in South Korea. It has played a decisive role in the development of Korea’s political, economic, social, and cultural fields. It is a veritable “national university.”
