In order to further promote the cultivation of applied interdisciplinary talents, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) has numerous students who have been working over summer, competing and succeeding in a variety of contests.

On August 7th, the National Finals of the National College English Contest (NECCS), which was held in Zhejiang Yuexiu Foreign Languages ​​College, SUSTech undergraduate Zhao Yanchu took home the First Prize in English Debate Competition and the Second Prize in English Speech competition, ranking her first in all competitors in Guangdong Province. Her instructor, Center for Language Education Lecturer Liu Lisha, was awarded the Excellent Instructor Prize. She also came first in the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) Star Teacher Contest Semi-final, held in Chengdu on August 1.

At the International Choral Federation Chorus Education Conference held on July 20th, he SUSTech Choir made its long-awaited debut at the festival and received a silver medal (also known as Level B Choir) in the adult mix chorus group.

In the 2018 National Student Orientation Championships held in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, Hao Wei, an undergraduate student from SUSTech, was the champion in the National College Group – SUSTech’s first national-level Championship on August 23^rd. Lv Chenghao came third in the group C undergraduate individual short distance orienteering on August 21^st, and Zhang Caiqi came third in the women’s individual championships.

By participating in various competitions, the students are developing more skills for understanding society, improving their communication skills and broadening their horizons. The students and faculty members have been inspired through the sense of competition and teamwork, thus having a meaningful and fulfilling summer vacation.
