As the traditional Chinese holiday, Winter Solstice Festival, edged ever closer, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) welcomed more than 100 alumni and faculty members from the United States, Britain, Australia and Hong Kong for the first inaugural meeting. SUSTech President and President of the Alumni Association Chen Shiyi, SUSTech University Council Vice Chairperson and Alumni Association Standing Vice President Li Fengliang joined Dean of the College of Humanities and Vice President of the Alumni Association Chen Yuehong at the annual meeting.

Li Fengliang talked about the development of the Alumni Association in the past year. He was proud of its progress in 2018, and pointed to its implementation of serving and supporting the development of SUSTech alumni. In 2019, the Alumni Association would continue to enrich and expand its activities, improve its work, create a more professional international alumni platform and provide all SUSTech people with a warm home.

President Chen Shiyi awarded “Best Alumni Service Award” to Wu Guanlong and Zi Mingqi, and Li Fengliang awarded “Best Alumni Participation Award” to Zhang Zihao. These awards recognized the active work of those enthusiastic alumni who have been supporting the Alumni Association.

Chen Shiyi, Li Fengliang, Director Zhang Ling of the Office of Communications and Public Relations, Secretary-General Tu Ronghui of the SUSTech Education Foundation and Deputy Secretary-General Geng Jun of the Alumni Association jointly unveiled the Alumni Development Fund. A micro-donation ceremony was also held as part of the meeting, with all funds raised going into the Alumni Development Fund to support alumni entrepreneurship and developing alumni organizations.

Chen Shiyi wished everyone a Happy New Year, and spoke of his happiness with the development of SUSTech in 2018. He noted that SUSTech’s achievements cannot be separated from the strong support of every department, every faculty member, every staff member and every student. The trust placed in SUSTech by each of these people and departments must be repaid by their alma mater. It is the harbor of the soul for SUSTech students, and he hoped that most alumni would often return to SUSTech to see its continual development.
