SUSTech Global Scientists Forum held in 2019

The first weekend of January saw Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hold its Global Scientists Forum on campus. More than 300 young scholars from top universities and institutions around the world came to SUSTech to attend this important event. SUSTech President Chen Shiyi attended the meeting with other key leaders, with Vice-President Tang Tao presiding over the opening ceremony.

Chen Shiyi welcomed the experts and scholars, briefing them on SUSTech’s overall development directions and key competitive advantages. He emphasized the importance of cultivating a high-quality talent pipeline for world-class universities, both at home and abroad.

Chen Shiyi said the environment for development opportunities, domestic scientific research and life is improving all the time. With SUSTech located in China’s innovation capital of Shenzhen, it can provide innovative talents with superior scientific research conditions and unlimited possibilities for development. He hopes that more young scholars would come to SUSTech to make great progress on the achievement of their dreams.

Dean of the SUSTech Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies Zhao Yusheng updated the audience about how SUSTech operates, from a variety of different aspects. He also shared his mentality behind scientific research.

Director of the Office of Human Resources Chen Zhifeng spoke effusively about SUSTech’s team of talents. He pointed out that SUSTech would continuously improve itself in order to attract more outstanding young scholars to its luscious grounds.

The numerous experts and scholars in attendance discussed many different academic disciplines and fields across the campus. They were enthusiastic in their serious discussions and their praise for SUSTech’s provision of platforms for interdisciplinary integration and exchange.

Since the establishment of SUSTech, many high-level talents have been introduced to the campus. 380 faculty members have joined SUSTech, with more than 90% having worked overseas, and more than 60% having worked or studied in a top 100 university.
