As part of a review for 2018, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) spent two days reviewing its activities with its annual departmental assessment. Every academic, research and administrative department attended the review, with SUSTech President Chen Shiyi and University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong providing important comments at the end of the meeting.

Guo Yurong pointed out that SUSTech’s rapid development cannot be separated from the work done by all university departments and their enthusiastic faculty members. She hoped that every department would take the opportunity to review their own work to improve in 2019.

Each department then discussed their achievements in 2018, as well as their plans for 2019. Vice presidents Tang Tao and Teng Jinguang joined University Council Vice Chairperson Li Fengliang in providing useful comments to each department.

Chen Shiyi summarized the meeting and fully affirmed the positivity emanating from the SUSTech campus throughout 2018. He pointed out that new and old departments were all developing well, and there was plenty of scope for different departments to learn from each other. Chen Shiyi said that in 2019, everyone would work together to further promote SUSTech towards its goal of building an international, high-level research university.

In 2019, SUSTech will move rapidly towards becoming a “Double First-Class” university and deepen its efforts in reform and innovation. It will continue to develop its first-class innovative talent pipeline that will result in more world-class scientific research results. This will all come off the back of understanding the efforts of previous years, which have laid the foundation for SUSTech’s establishment as a world-class university, rooted in China.
