July 22，Shenzhen- Strategy Seminar on College Development was held with the theme of ” brainstorming ideas, gathering consensus, seeking development and building a harmonious world”. Party Secretary Li Ming, President Chen Shiyi, Ms. Han Wei, Deputy Director of Preparatory Office , Office of Students Affairs, members of college and representatives of relevant departments and college students gathered for discussion and joint development .

At the seminar, Xue Zheng , the Director of Office of Students Affairs and the Secretary of Youth League committee, introduced the development situation of the university’s colleges.

Ms.Han Wei , Deputy Director of Preparatory Office, shared her inspirations and thought with the participants, which she recently got from the Modern college system Forum and introduced the college system culture of the world famous university.

The deans of Zhiren College and Shuren College described their thoughts on the constructions of the colleges. Suggestions are also mentioned. Professor Xu Baomin, the dean, talked about the perspective long-term plan. Dean, professor Huang Limin mentioned that the regulation sshould be established and the college should stress practical results of the tutorial system. Dean, professor Xia Zhihong introduced the U.S college education culture to the participants. Dean, professor Zheng Chunmiao should enhance the belongingness and humanities of the students and help them to findtheir goals. The conference room resounded with waves of warm applauses andcheers. The vice Deans (student affairs) of the four colleges also made their speech on the development of the colleges.

Party Secretary Li Ming pointed out the management mode of SUSTC college is by appointing of a dean to take charge of the student affairs and two vice deans for the academic and students affairs respectively. The student affair office, Youth League committee and colleges work together for the student management.

President Chen Shiyi pointed out in his speech that the deans should carry out the work by fully considering the innovative spirits of SUSTC. He suggested that the deans could learn from the American colleges to live in the college with the students and create a harmonious environment for our students.
