Professor Francois Taddei, Director of Center for Research and Interdisciplinarity (CPI) and associate professor Luping Xu, director of Open FIESTA, visited SUSTC for the discussion meeting at the invitation of the preparation office of UNESCOType II education agency at SUSTC.

The theme of the discussion meeting is Learning Science, Innovation Education and Interdisciplinary Research.

Vice President Professor Tao Tang, students,faculty and related department directors attend the above activity.

Professor Francois Taddei is also thesenior researcher of INSERM and the professor of biology at Paris DescartesUniversity. Associate professor Luping Xu is also the vice director of Centerfor Nano/micro-Mechanics and Multidisciplinary Innovation Research at TsinghuaUniversity.

CRI in Paris was founded in 2005 as aconvivial place at the crossroad of life sciences and exact, natural,cognitive, and social sciences.

The CRI’s main role is to promote new educational techniques and strategies to empower the students to take initiativeand develop their own research projects. Mentors, research institutions,private companies, and foundations, such as the Bettencourt Foundation, provide the support for the student-created research projects and activities.

In 2014, Open FIESTA was founded by AssociateProfessor Luping Xu, based on the concept of CRI.

Party Secretary Li Ming held a meeting with the experts and introduced the basic situation of SUSTC.

The professors first gave a lecture on the topic of cultivating next generation change makers for the 21th century to thestudents and faculty and then held discussion with the participants.

Vice President，Professor Tao Tang also joined the discussion meeting and introduced the university’s development on internationalization and research and education based on interdisciplinary. He also shared the “collective intelligence” concept with the experts and students， and discussed the further cooperating plans.

After the meeting, associate professor Luping Xu also invited the students to join their Open FIESTA summer vacation workshop in theGraduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University.
