In August 2015, the university decided to officially establish Zhicheng College after research. Zhicheng College becomes one of the two colleges newly established by SUSTC. 
The SUSTC adopts college as student education administration system, its purpose is to realize combination of liberal education and specialized education, to reach the goal of balanced education. College is core constituent part of comprehensive education implemented by SUSTC. It aims to serve students and tutors of different grades and majors, create student and teacher community with close communication between students and teachers and simultaneous growth of friends, promote multi-dimensional growth of students in the aspects of knowledge, emotion, morality and sociality. 
The college regards students’ dormitory as physical space, students’ extracurricular time as expanding time, provides students with kind and conciliative living and studying environment, provides caring tutorship and holistic education, and promotes self growth and personality cultivation of students, by providing all-around learning activities and rich interest activities. 
The Zhicheng from name Zhicheng College comes from famous quotation from Xunzi Conscientiousness:”the best thing for nourishing heart is sincerity and nothing more, keeping kindheartedness and adhering to morality”. The quotation means reaching Zhichneg by sincerely treating everyone and everything. 
Currently Zhicheng College has 478 students, the first dean is Professor Xia Zhihong, world leading mathematician and astronomer. The college provides non-formal education, to coordinates with classroom education, promote academic and cultural activities, make students knowing arts and science, complements in major and cultivate personality, encourage students of different backgrounds to communicate and learn from each other, meet students’ personalized development needs and finally promote comprehensive development of students. 
Moral education is the core value of Zhicheng College. As a research university with science and engineering as main majors, SUSTC not only wants to cultivate scientific elites with extensive knowledge and innovation ability, but also wants to endow them with noble personality, firm principled stand and rich social wisdom.
