On October 4, 2015, the school meeting of The 3rd Model United Nations Conference of SUSTC held by Students’ Association ended successfully through three days’ heated discussion.

Model United Nations Conference was held by students imitating the operation mode and rule of procedure of the United Nations, in which they discuss about international hot issues, express their ideas, formulate files, take a vote, and make a final decision. The purpose of this activity is to expand the students’ international views, improve their political accomplishments, as well as cultivate the qualities that should be possessed by modern and excellent college students, such as team spirit, decision-making analysis ability and so on through conducting Model United Nations Conference.

There are two conference halls in this conference, and the language are Chinese and English respectively. The Chinese hall had a heated discussion on the topic of “terrorism and its coping strategy” while the English hall had the topic of “nuclear disarmament”. Through the conference, the representatives attended acquired the skill of negotiation and communicates, the preparation before the conference also provided them a chance to practice their ability of information retrieval.

Liu Xin, secretary-general of the conference, student of the 2013 grade, indicated that: “I feel a sense of achievement to see that the representatives attended have been improved constantly and gradually master the meeting skills and became mature. In addition, I think I have learnt a lot from the conference, and the Model United Nations Conference is really rewarding.”

The conference was held successfully by Model United Nations Association, Academic Department of SUSTC Student Union under the fully support of Student Affairs and Student Union of SUSTC. The academic work of the conference was completed by SUSTC Model United Nations Conference Association and Model United Nations Conference Association of Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) together. This is the 3rd conference held by SUSTC Model United Nations Conference Association and it has gradually become the club activity deeply loved and concerned by students.
