2015 Review Meeting of Undergraduate Admission Work Opens

The number of new students increases by 54%, and at the same time, student quality improves significantly. On the afternoon of September 16, 2015, SUSTC convened the summary and commendation meeting for the enrollment of 2015. Members of SUSTC leadership like Chairperson of university council Li Ming, President Chen Shiyi, Vice-president Qin Zheng, Wu Chuanyue and Tang Tao, Secretary-general of university council Dong Chaojun, Chief Accountant Ye Qin, Deputy Director of the Preparatory Office Han Wei and Associate Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Lu Chun, as well as representatives of each faculties and departments and staff participating in the enrollment, more than 100 in total, attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Han Wei, Deputy Director of the Preparatory Office.

The director of the Enrollment Office reviewed and summarized the enrollment of 2015. Vice-principal Wu Chuanyue announced the “SUSTC’s Decision on the Advanced Collectives and Individuals in the Enrollment of 2015”. Amidst warm applauses, the school leadership presented advanced collective awards in the enrollment to 21 enrollment groups. Teacher Ai Jianqi and Professor He Jiaqing made a speech on the behalf of the advanced enrollment collectives and the advanced individuals respectively.

“The enrollment in 2015 has certified the success of ‘631’ enrollment mode. We have confidence to do better in the enrollment of 2016!” President Chen Shiyi pointed out in the speech, that the enrollment of SUSTC is not only based on the college entrance examination. The examinees that get good results in the college entrance examination, but have bad performances at ordinary times won’t be enrolled by SUSTC. From the performance of new students, we can see their confidence, independence, individuality, adventure and strong innovation ability. “Why can both the quality and quantity of the enrollment of 2015 be improved?” the answer of Chen Shiyi is that: Advanced enrollment mode through comprehensive assessment. The educational pattern of SUSTC with the characteristics of elitism, internationalization, individuation, college system, tutorial system and credit system is predominant, which has the true connotation to attract students. SUSTC mobilizes all the staff to provide “one-to-one” services for the examinees; objectively publicizes the characteristics and advantages of powerful teachers, excellent graduates and high-level school-running conditions.

Chen Shiyi proposed definite requirements for the enrollment of 2016: Firstly, train the “internal strength”, continue to promote the teaching and research level and provide better resources and cultivation for students than they expected. Famous professor shall give classes to students on a regular basis in particular. Secondly, the enrollment goal of 2016 shall be higher than that of 2015 to promote student quality gradually. Thirdly, keep the stability and capability of the enrollment team. SUSTC shall pay high attention to the enrollment so as to accomplish the top-level design.

Chairperson of university council Li Ming congratulated the advanced enrollment collectives and the advanced individuals commended in his speech. He said that it was the joint effort of teachers taking charge of the enrollment that propelled the continuous improvement of SUSTC’s enrollment, realizing the complete success of the enrollment of 2015. In 2015, the series of enrollment measures adopted by SUSTC is practical and valid. In order to complete the enrollment of 2015, establish flexible and efficient enrollment mechanism, arouse the enthusiasm of professors and administration, and communicate and cooperate with middle school closely, the leading enrollment group timely directed, supervised and propelled the enrollment to go on smoothly.

“We shall carry forward the enrollment experience of this year!” Li Ming indicated. Through the further increasing and enhancing of SUSTC teachers, all works had been promoted comprehensively. He believed that the enrollment of 2016 would reach a new level on the basis of this year.
