On the afternoon of November 11, “Shuren Technology Visit” kicked off with a visit to a Chinese leading nuclear power enterprise–China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNPEC) under China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGN). A delegation of 30 members from Shuren College (SPC) expereinced a memorable “journey of nuclear power”.

The visit involved a nuclear technology lecture, a laboratory visit and an exchange & sharing meeting. In the nuclear power lecture which came first, the students learned about the past, present and future of China’s nuclear power industry, acquired the knowledge of ray, radioactivity, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, reactor and nuclear power generation in the basis of nuclear energy, initially mastered basic knowledge such as nuclear power safety, international nuclear event scale, radiation protection, electromagnetic radiation and ionizing radiation, and went deep into nuclear power engineering equipment, nuclear fuel cycle and nuclear power plant operation.

Subsequently, the students visited the digital instrument control validation laboratory, the human factors & ergonomics laboratory, the key laboratory of nuclear power safety monitoring technology and equipment, and the nuclear power virtual simulation engineering laboratory in the National Energy & Nuclear Power Engineering Technology R & D (Experimental) Center, watching a 3D demonstration of nuclear power safety, a 3D demonstration of the process of reactor refueling in a nuclear power plant and a 3D view of Lufeng Nuclear Power Plant.

Following the visit, CNPEC’s senior engineers exchanged ideas with the students in regard to their concerns such as CNPEC’s corporate culture, campus recruitment, staff training and career promotion. They also encouraged the students to treasure the favorable conditions of South University of Science and Technology of China (SUSTC), learn theoretical knowledge, do research and behave well to serve the country in the future. The event ended in the students’ warm applause.

As a thematic off-campus social practice planned by SRA, “Shuren Technology Visit” is aimed to promote SRC’s students to integrate theories with practices, improve their learning awareness and study capacity for the integration of production, learning, research and application, and enrich the content and forms of campus cultural activities. Next the students will visit renowned other enterprises and institutions such as Tencent, Huawei and DJI.
