“I’ve signed up for the industrial class to see whether electronics can be combined with the photovoltaic industry, and where they can be combined,” said Zhao Zhenshu, a junior of SUSTC.

On November 28, the first “industrial class” of Zhiren College officially commenced. Led by Bao Chuanwen, Executive Vice Dean of Zhiren College, 10 SUSTC students from different grades of different departments came to Shenzhen Trony Solar Science & Technology Development Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Trony Technology”). Mr. Liu Bin, Executive Deputy General Manager of Trony Technology, warmly received SUSTC teachers and students. In the process, our teachers and students obtained a preliminary understanding of the forefront development of the photovoltaic industry, and discussed the possible paths of industrial transformation with the relevant personnel of the company.

In the “industrial class,” Deputy General Manager Liu Bin introduced the development status, prospects, and advantages of the world photovoltaic industry; Chief Technical Engineer Hu Shengming made a detailed description of the solar power principle, the development history of the photovoltaic industry, and the development trends of PV products at home and abroad; Production Director Li Gong demonstrated a variety of latest PV applications and products. In a lively discussion about the present situation, prospects and advantages of photovoltaic products, a number of forefront topics like intelligent power stations were proposed. Later, the students visited the company’s solar energy production lines; at the testing center, they also witnessed the new products being developed. Trony Technology produces a wide range of photovoltaic products for varied applications, which were unanimously praised by teachers and students, and the students said they have benefited a lot from the trip.

Trony Technology is currently China’s largest manufacturer and solutions provider of the thin film amorphous silicon solar cells. It is in possession of the core production and development technologies of the second-generation thin film solar cells, covering solar home systems, solar building integration, solar communications systems, solar-powered systems for offshore oilfields, large-scale solar power plants, and solar desalination systems. Since the EU began to take anti-dumping measures for the China PV industry two years ago, Trony Technology and other solar companies has been facing the urgent need of industrial transformation.

As is learnt, the first “industrial class” of Zhiren College will last a month, during which the team of teachers and students will form several groups to do separate experiments and researches on a series of sub-topics, and propose a “customized” industrial transformation program for Trony Technology.
