A student from Guangxi asked, “Though we prefer SUSTC, some parents and high-school teachers don’t think so. What should we do?”

Chen Shiyi said, it is normal to see the parents and students having different ideas on which university to choose from. With the company of tutors, the students can pass the period of perplexity quickly

Entering university from the high school is a leap. And it is inevitable for the students to feel perplexed because they would face many difficulties in the university. A student from Sichuan expressed his concerns.

Chen Nanxian answered, first of all, the students should lay down psychological burden and face new situation and problems. Feeling perplexed is because of the many choices available. So it can be called the happy perplexity. Making one decision for all is not possible. Instead, they should keep approaching their expectations by realizing one small target after another.

How should we understand this?”.The questions raised by a student from Shaanxi attracted attention, causing silence in the meeting room.

“Stanford is a great university. I once asked the President of Stanford University about the secret. He answered without any hesitation. First, academic freedom. Second, spirit of entrepreneurship. SUSTC should not only engage in researches targeting at Nobel Prize, but also cultivate elites with broad vision and making major contributions to the economy and society”, said Chen Shiyi.

Younger students with special talents can also be enrolled after reaching minimum requirements

“I am 13 years old and I am a Grade 11 students. I am in the same age when Wang Jiale, one of the first SUSTC students, was enrolled. Am I suitable for SUSTC”, a young student from Taiyuan No.5 High School in Shanxi asked.

Chen Shiyi answered that SUSTC does not only emphasize on exam results. Instead, it enrolls students according to their academic performance, strong points, and potential for innovations. Build the first-class language center

Some students worry that they cannot adapt to the English lecturing in SUSTC.

Lu Chun revealed that SUSTC is working hard to build the first-class language center. It has already recruited the first-class language expert in the world to work as the director in the language center. All teachers in the center hold the doctor’s degree in first-class universities. Class in the language center has a small size. It is believed that SUSTC students, after receiving training in the language center, will have sufficient language ability to study in any university in the world with English lecturing in Year 2 or Year.

The President established WeChat Group with high-school students
