April 29,2016, 2:00pm, It’s our honor to have Dr. Zhu Lei to give us a speech of The Internationalization of RMB and The Balance of International Payments.

Speech is divided into three parts: 1.what opportunities RMB is facing; 2.The internationalize process of yen and dollar. 3. What threaten RMB is facing. Each part is excellent.
  During the first part what opportunities RMB is facing, Dr. Zhu Lei said, International currency should meet three kind of requirements: 1. Meet bilateral and multilateral trade; 2. meet the needs of the currency settlement; 3. Meet the need of other country which want to hold the currency in a long run. To satisfied those needs, RMB was required three characteristics: stable currency, free circulation and with appreciation potential.

  During the second part The internationalize process of yen and dollar, yen’s internationalization started from it’s financial revolution, bloom of the help it has offered, and end up the domestic crisis. Compare to yen’s internationalization process, dollar is totally different, dollar’s bloom due to its gold reserve and cooperation, that is the key issue help dollar translate from regional key currency to an internationalization currency. Dr. Zhu Lei concluded.
  The third part is about threaten which RMB is facing now. Considered yen and dollar’s internationalization process, Dr. Zhu Lei point out RMB is facing “The Triffin Dilemma”, Passive inflation and so on, in addition, she also analysis several cases to explain the reason why there are sharp fluctuations in exchange rates since 2015.
  Whole speech stared with opportunities of RMB’s internationalization process, analysis basic features of an international currency and explain why it’s the right time for RMB to translate into an international currency; the following part give a brief introduction of yen and dollar’s international process and show us the advantages and disadvantages of internationalization; finally she explain the threaten which RMB is facing. Dr. Zhu Lei not only enrich our knowledge broadened our horizons, and also Contact with reality, Cultivating students’ overall thinking, it’s really impressive.

Dr. Zhu Lei, finance master of the Tsinghua University, Doctor of management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has working for People’s bank of China, participates in many revolution of foreign exchange.
