On the afternoon of September 9, SUSTech held 2016 Teachers’ Day Commendation Meeting to recognize receivers of 2016 Excellent Teaching Award, Outstanding Scientific Research Award, Excellent Tutor Award, Teaching Competition for Young Teachers Award and Public Service Award. With Chief Operating Officer Lu Chun as the chair, leaders of the university and all of its units, academicians as well as representatives of teaching and administrative staff attended the meeting.

Guo Yurong read the decision to commend award winners. There were altogether 35 winners of SUSTech Public Service Award, 17 winners of Excellent Teaching Award, 20 winners of Outstanding Scientific Research Award, 30 winners of Excellent Tutor Award, and 26 winners of Teaching Competition for Young Teachers Award.
Wang Fei, representative of winners of Excellent Teaching Award and Professor of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, expressed his gratitude to SUSTech leaders and the judging panel for their recognition of his efforts, and to his colleges from Office of Education Affairs for their support. According to Wang, the teaching competition inspired teachers’ enthusiasm for teaching, and encouraged the teachers to improve themselves as well as their instructional designs and teaching plans.
Prof. Luo Dan, representative of winners of Excellent Tutor Award and teacher of Zhiren College, noted that as an ordinary tutor, he deeply felt the responsibility and sense of mission of “imparting knowledge and cultivating students”. In Zhiren College, tutors may exert profound and far-reaching influences on their students, which requires the teachers to be kind, innovative and hard-working.
Vice President Qin Zheng and Vice President Wu Chuanyue gave awards to the winners of Teaching Competition for Young Teachers Award. One of the winners He Zhenyu, said that every SUSTech teacher may influence the students. He hoped that the teachers would promote the development of the university with their efforts.
Vice President Tang Tao and Director of Office of Research Zhao Yusheng presented awards to the winners of Outstanding Scientific Research Award. One of the winners Tan Bin said he received great support and help from SUSTech and was very happy and productive during the four years he worked in SUSTech. Although there are and will be many difficulties in his researches, he would definitely forge ahead.
Han Wei, Deputy Director of Preparation Office and Director of Office of Human Resource, and Wang Yongjie, Director of Office of General Affairs, gave awards to the winners of Public Service Award. According to representative of the award winners Liu Yuening, although the teachers were doing ordinary work, their efforts may contribute to the development of SUSTech and China’s higher education.
President Chen Shiyi thanked all the teachers for their time and efforts, and sincerely wished all the teachers a happy Teachers’ Day. Chen stressed that as an emerging university, SUSTech should set high moral values and give top priority to all-round development of students. He hoped that the teachers could be devoted to their duties and be the pioneers of educational reform. At last, Chen thanked all of SUSTech teachers again for their dedication to the university’s cause of education.
