The 2nd “College Cup” of SUSTech came to a successful end on the morning of October 30, when Zhiren College Football Team beat Shuren College Football Team 6-3 (penalty kick 4-1) and won the championship of this event. Zhicheng College Football Team was awarded Spiritual Civilization Award, Wang Bozhi from Zhiren College Football Team won Best Football Player, Li En from Shuli College Football Team won Best Shooter (Golden Boot Award) for 7 goals. The leadership, including President of SUSTech Chen Shiyi, Vice-Chairperson of University Council Li Fengliang, Vice President Wu Chuanyue, presented awards to the winning team and players.

Shuren College Football Team and Shuli College Football Team were runner-up and the third place respectively, and Zhixin College Football Team, Zhicheng College Football Team and Shude College Football Team won the fourth, fifth and sixth places respectively.
There were several “first time” in this “College Cup”. For instance, it was the first time to adopt the tournament system, including group games and knockout games. During the 11 matches in 7 match days of 35 days the match lasted in total, there were 45 scoring goals, or an average of 4.09 goals per match, a substantial increase over previous years, so was the level of competition. It was the first time when international students participated in the matches. Tra, an undergraduate student in 2016, also a player from Zhixin College Football Team, became the first international student to participated in and successfully goaled in the football games of SUSTech, and would be included in the SUSTech Sports Records. It was the first time that the championship was determined by penalty kicks. In the final, Zhiren College Football Team and Shuren College Football Team were evenly matched, 2-2 in 90 minutes. Via penalty kicks, Zhiren College Football Team won the championship for the first time. Though first involved in the match, Shuren College Football Team beat other veteran teams and won runner-up, becoming a “dark horse” of the event.

Jointly organized by the Youth League Committee, the Sports Center and the Students’ Union, the “College Cup” was designed to enrich the cultural life on campus, enhance the communication and cooperation among different colleges, increase the collective cohesion and sense of belonging, and motivate students to “go offline, out of the dorm and to the playground.” Students showed great enthusiasm, a strong collective cohesion and healthy sporting competition in the event. They trained and played for the honor of their colleges full of energy and enthusiasm, regardless of the blazing sun or pouring rain. They embodied the vigorous spirits of SUSTech.
