Recently, Professor Xiaowen SHAN at the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering was recognize as an “APS Outstanding Referees.”

The American Physical Society (APS) is the world’s second largest organization of physicists. The Society publishes more than a dozen scientific journals, including the prestigious Physical Review, Review of Modern Physics, and Physical Review Letters. To express the appreciation for the essential work that anonymous peer reviewers do for the journals, and to recognize their contributions in advance and diffuse the knowledge of physics through their reports and advices, APS has an annual program to recognize a small percentage of the 57,000 active referees each year as “Outstanding Referees.” Professor Xiaowen SHAN is one of the 2017 group of Outstanding Referees of the Physical Review journals, as chosen by the journal editors, and invited to the recognition ceremonies for the Outstanding Referees during the prize and award sessions at the 2017 APS Meetings in Washington, D.C. (January) and New Orleans (March).

Xiaowen SHAN, Chair Professor and chair of the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineer, was elected an APS fellow in 2009, and has been a referee for the APS journals for a long time.
