Freshmen Arrive, Meet The Class Of 2017

PAKHAR, the 14th typhoon of the year, brought heavy rain to Shenzhen, forced the cancellation of 190 flights and limited high-speed trains on Sunday. However, SUSTech campus awoke again Monday morning after the typhoon, as the Class of 2017 officially arrived on campus.

As SUSTech Council Chairperson Guo Yurong, President Chen Shiyi, Vice-chairperson Li Fengliang walked around the Campus to greet the newcomers and their families, students carried cartons, pulled suitcases, and lugged clothes and sheets into their assigned residential colleges. Teams of peer advisers and Residential College staff were quick to provide assistance.

Thanks to a record high yield, 1,005 students, make up the latest class. Nearly 25 percent of its members are female. The students come from 22 provinces and 18 of its members are international students. 88 of its members are the generation after 00s; the youngest of the students is going to be 16 this year; 10 students come from different ethnic groups, including Buyi, Tujia and Bai ethnic group.
