On February 5th, 2018, the first period of the Opera Director Talent Cultivation Project of the National Arts Fund, sponsored by SUSTech and undertaken by Shenzhen Grand Theatre, came to a close. Art masters, such as National Level 1 Director Chen Xinyi, China’s first female opera and symphony conductor Zheng Xiaoying, gathered at SUSTech and guided 30 young artists.

Artistic enjoyment was of paramount importance and trainees improved their capabilities as a director. The first period of the projects highlighted the art theory and practice of stage art director. The second period of the training will start in the summer.

China National Arts Fund (CNAF) funded the project. Established in 2013, China National Arts Fund aims to promote the creation of artworks and cultivate artists.

SUSTech was the only university in Shenzhen to be awarded a National Arts Fund project in 2017, and the promotion and development of high-end arts education have long been an essential part of its strategic goals. As an emerging university of science and engineering, SUSTech places great emphasis on the mutual development of scientific and artistic qualities and strives to create a remarkable art education platform.
