On May 18, Chairman of Shenzhen Municipal Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Dai Beifang led a delegation to SUSTech. University Council Chairperson Guo Yurong, President Chen Shiyi, SUSTech Member of CPPCC, and responsible persons of Human Resources Office, Office of Communications and Public Relations and Office of Party Affairs & Administration accompanied Dai’s delegation for the visit.

Dai Beifang and guests visited the 3D campus model and Pico Center while listening to the introduction of SUSTech from university leaders. They then proceeded to the seminar, where Guo Yurong and Chen Shiyi expressed their gratitude to the Shenzhen Municipal CPPCC for their continuous support and recognition.

Chen Shiyi presented the recent developments of SUSTech, including policy reform, academic development, talent education, faculty recruitment, scientific research, and overall planning of evaluation for “Double First-Class” university. He added that SUSTech’s goal is to become a world-class research university and export top-notch talents to Shenzhen and all of China.

Guo Yurong reported on a series of breakthroughs made by SUSTech recently, such as being approved to award doctoral degrees by the Ministry of Education. As a university under the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, SUSTech will implement CPC policies on education and actively seek innovative problem-solving techniques.

Dai Beifang commented that the development of SUSTech high resembled Shenzhen’s economic reform and opening-up since the 1980s. Therefore, SUSTech’s self-positioning and goals should be closely related to Shenzhen’s mission. He hoped that SUSTech inherits the innovative spirit of Shenzhen and succeed in its evaluation to become a “Double First-Class” university.
