On July 5, a career talk and project exhibition for university-enterprise joint education scheme took place on SUSTech’s campus. With a theme of “integrated design,” the event attracted representatives of approximately 100 hi-tech companies. Numerous companies provided support, including Huawei, Tencent, DJI, SEG Electronics Group and Han Laser Technology. A variety of institutions and associations also backed the event, including the Shenzhen Enterprise Confederation, the Shenzhen Electronics Industries Association, the Shenzhen Industrial Design Association, the Shenzhen New Materials Industry Association, and the Guangdong General Aviation Association.

Dean of SUSTech’s College of Engineering Xu Zhenghe emphasized the urgent need to foster engineering talents due to China’s rapid economic growth. He further reaffirmed the importance of education reform. He specifically focused on the integration of academia and current industry development, and innovative interdisciplinarity in the engineering field. Vice Dean Zhang Bi explained the theme of “integrated design,” saying it refers to designing an innovative engineering education scheme, based on advanced international experience and integration of production, learning, and research.

Vice Director of Technology Transfer Center Liu Guangyu introduced the University-Enterprise Joint Education Scheme with “integrated design.” A company presents a project and issues a request for technologies and resources from the university. From there, the university builds a project team of three to five university students of diverse academic backgrounds and designates two advisors (one from the university, the other from the company) to overlook the project. As part of the “integrated design” process, over 20 business management courses are arranged for the project team, and the team is evaluated through to the final defense of their report.

SUSTech is also establishing a talent innovation hub to develop further the university-enterprise joint education scheme. It aims to solve many manufacturing and engineering problems in the Shenzhen area and improve the innovation environment of the city.
