From July 13 to 15, the Third Overseas Chinese Orthopedics Summit Forum took place at SUSTech’s Administration Building. The forum sought to find new treatments for common orthopedic diseases such as osteoporosis and arthritis, expand SUSTech’s international influence on orthopedics research and accelerate the development of orthopedics in Shenzhen.
Over 50 reputable overseas Chinese orthopedics experts attended the forum, including Rush University Professor Chen Di, Stony Brook University Professor Qin Yixian, University of Western Australia Medical School Professor Xu Jiake, and Professor Zhouhong from the ANZAC Research Institute of the University of Sydney. Orthopedics scholars working in China were also in attendance, such as Nanjing Medical University Professor Miao Dengshun, Army Medical University Professor Chen Lin, the Fourth Military Medical University (Xijing Orthopedics Hospital) Professor Pei Guoxian, and Professor Qin Ling from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
At the opening ceremony, Forum President and host Xiao Guozhi warmly welcomed all the guests. He also reflected on the first two forums and hoped for a successful third forum. Biology Chair Professor Wu Chuanyue also delivered a speech with similar sentiments.
Next, Johns Hopkins University Professor Cao Xu introduced the skeleton evolution and diseases of terrestrial vertebrates. Professor Long Fanxin from Washington University in St. Louis shared his research findings on bone cell metabolism. Later, all the experts brainstormed together and discussed important issues in orthopedics, such as treatment of orthopedic diseases.
