On July 21, SUSTech held the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation & Entrepreneurship Exchange Day, which was organized by the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government (HKMAO).
The event is HKMAO’s method of achieving its goals under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Youth Internship Scheme. The organizers invited about 150 university students and youth representatives from Hong Kong to visit Shenzhen-headquartered hi-tech companies. The guests also visited major research institutes based in Shenzhen and our green campus. HKMAO aims to promote a better understanding of Shenzhen’s innovative and entrepreneurial environment among the Hong Kong youth. Such an approach is intended at encouraging young Hong Kongers to pursue their career in Shenzhen while expanding their horizons and future development possibilities.
The students were mainly from the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, and the Open University of Hong Kong.
The students and youth representatives from Hong Kong visited the exhibition hall at the laboratory building and were given a basic understanding of SUSTech’s research system and achievements throughout the event. Vice Director of Global Engagement Office Li Xu introduced SUSTech’s vision, mission and goals. He advanced internship and educational opportunities for the students at SUSTech. Later, the students and youth representatives talked to the young Hong Kong entrepreneurs in Shenzhen. The young businesspeople shared their experiences of making it big in the Chinese mainland. The Hong Kong youth left campus feeling inspired, saying it was an eye-opening, informative and rewarding experience.
In just four years, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Youth Internship Scheme has seen nearly 2,500 Hong Kong university students enrolled in internship programs of well-known Guangdong enterprises. HKMAO is highly supportive of this scheme in Shenzhen. It has arranged abundant internship positions throughout the city and attracted approximately 1,000 Hong Kong students to intern in Shenzhen.
