Over December 12 and 13, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) was the host venue for the “2019 Seminar on Basic Problems related to Numerical Wind Tunnel” (Seminar), sponsored by the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center (CARDC). The Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at SUSTech organized the Seminar with the State Key Laboratory of Aerodynamics (CARDC).

SUSTech President Chen Shiyi was among the 90 scholars from across mainland China who attended the Seminar. He welcomed the experts, scholars and students in attendance and introduced MAE to them. President Chen spoke about the field of wind tunnel construction and numerical wind tunnel simulation. He hoped that the experts here for the Seminar would return to SUSTech for more exchanges and discussions in the future.

Across the Seminar, 5 conference reports and 19 invited reports were given by five academicians and fourteen experts and professors.

NSFC Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences Deputy Director Meng Qingguo introduced and interpreted several policy issues regarding numerical wind tunnels. He anticipated that there would be more inter-institutional collaboration that promotes numerical wind tunnels in China.

The Seminar discussed the latest progress and development trends in the cutting-edge fields of numerical wind tunnel simulation and related calculation methods. It showed the most recent research progress and achievements of many experts and scholars in related fields.
