On January 10, 2020, Clarivate’s Essential Science Indicators (ESI) updated its research discipline rankings. According to the latest data, Southern University of Science and Technology’s (SUSTech) Engineering is the newest addition to the global top 1% list. SUSTech already has Chemistry and Materials Science in the global top 1%.
An overview of SUSTech’s ESI discipline rankings
The statistical period selected this time is ten years and eight months (January 2009 to October 2019). SUSTech’s research output data covers only eight years and ten months (January 2011 to October 2019), with three disciplines ranked in the top 1% globally.
According to the Incites database, the Category Normalized Citation Impact (CNCI) of SUSTech’s three disciplines (Chemistry, Materials Science, and Engineering) are 1.911, 1.833, and 1.289, indicating that the average cited performance of SUSTech’s paper is 1.911 1.833, 1.289 times the world level.
At present, SUSTech has published 553 ESI engineering papers with a total of 2831 citations. More than 95% of papers are published by faculty and students at the College of Engineering, mainly from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering, the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering, and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
