April 26 is World Intellectual Property Day. Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), working with the Intellectual Property Office of Shenzhen Municipality, created a week of themed activities across campus, in conjunction with the Technology Transfer Center (TTC).

The TTC carried out many activities, including publishing short videos, themed lectures, and process training for SUSTech’s intellectual property policies. The “Intellectual Property Classroom” video series spoke about the fundamentals of intellectual property rights and how to transform achievements. It covered a wide range of areas that are critical to properly managing their intellectual property.

Special guests who took part in include Pinyuan senior patent attorney Fangming LIN, Chaofan senior search analyst Zhiyong TANG, national patent information expert Guanghai YE, Stanford University Technology Licensing Office former assistant director Quan AI and China Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition Final General Director of Intellectual Property Evaluation Jingheng ZHONG, the former chief representative of Oxford University technology and research commercialization company Xiaowei HU, and other experts.

Their classes covered topics such as “Common Problems and Suggestions for Patent Applications in Universities,” “Technological Development and Patent Layout,” and “Patent Information to help comprehensive protection to increase the probability of authorization.”

The expert lectures focused on case studies that provide vivid examples of intellectual property and the transformation of technological achievements. More than one thousand people have watched the lectures, including SUSTech staff and students, colleagues from other universities, intellectual property service agencies, and government departments.

The TTC provided intellectual property training for the SUSTech community to ensure that they are aware of every step that is required to move their applications forward and the policies that are in place at SUSTech.

The Intellectual Property Day events that took place are an essential part of the TTC’s efforts in educating and informing the SUSTech community about the importance of intellectual property rights and the transformation of technological achievements to industrial technology.
