SUSTech Associate Professor Hongyan YUAN from the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) was elected as a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He was recognized for his long-term contribution to fundamental research and engineering applications of computational biomechanics.

Hongyan YUAN has developed single-cell scale, computational biomechanics models. His models have been successfully applied to bioengineering problems such as microtissue formation, cancer cell migration, and nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems.

Hongyan YUAN joined MAE in 2019. He was engaged in postdoctoral research at both Brown University and Harvard University before working as an assistant professor at the University of Rhode Island.

His research interests include flexible and soft robots, computational structural dynamics, biomechanics, and bioengineering. He has published more than 30 papers in high-impact academic journals such as Science and Nature, with more than 2700 citations (Google Scholar, as of August 2020).
