In recent days, the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) hosted the Southeast Division competition of the National University Student Optoelectronic Design Competition. This year, twenty-two teams were shortlisted for the finals, with nineteen best instructors.
Two SUSTech teams won first and second prize in the Southeast Division. Three teams were selected to continue to the national finals on August 29 and 30, at SUSTech. The final will feature an online roadshow, judged by 50 experts from all over the country.
School of Innovation & Entrepreneurship Deputy Dean and Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering (EEE) Associate Professor Liyang SHAO won a “Best Instructor” award, along with postdoctoral fellow Guoqing WANG.
SUSTech Vice President Dongxiao ZHANG is chairing the organizing committee of the 2020 National Finals. EEE Head Xiaowei SUN, Shenzhen University Head of Physics Ping XU, and China International Optoelectronic Expo Founder & Executive Vice-President ChengXian YANG are serving as deputy chairmen. Fifteen experts are serving as committee members and ten serving as deputy secretaries-general under EEE Associate Professor Liyang SHAO.
The National University Student Optoelectronic Design Competition is a top competition hosted by the Chinese Optical Society, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education’s Department of Optoelectronics, Information Science, and Engineering of Higher Education Institutions. The competition seeks to promote the popularization of optoelectronic knowledge. It aims to strengthen the practical and innovative knowledge of university students. There are seven divisions in total split into different areas across mainland China. Shortlisted finalists then compete in the national final.
